An important impetus from the 17. DGKH Congress for hospital hygiene, 12 – 15. May 2024, Bonn

Of the 17. Congress for hospital hygiene of the DGKH this week after three successful, informative, and discussion days come to an end. There are numerous topics were presented, Thought-provoking, u. a:

  • The important role of wastewater as a potential infection reservoir and place the development of antibiotic resistance through horizontal gene transfer
  • The importance of water-associated, Biofilm-forming facultative Pathogens such as Legionella spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, non-tuberculous Mycobacteria, and the role of Aspergillus fumigatus in immunocompromised
  • The significant impacts of climate change on the rising infection rates.
  • The global increase in infections with Candida auris, which the CDC in the United States and the ECDC in the EU have been warned

A whole Session of Hygiene in war and natural disasters, was dedicated to. This has made it clear, on what challenges we should be from a hygienic and especially water in a hygienic point of view as a result of climate change, to prepare. The importance of the WHO since 2011, recommended water safety plans, particularly for systemically important, such as hospitals was highlighted. In addition, the discussion of (drinking water was deepened)Hygiene from a Sustainability point of view and the concept of the "Green Hospital" in a Session of its own lights. New AI-based teaching and training approaches were also presented. And much more...

I would like to thank the DGKH for the excellent organization and the invitation to participate actively in this important Congress and look forward to further processing, and presentation of the new findings in the next year, 16 – 17. May, 2025, in the food!
